  1. A farmer from Carrigcannon went into his neighbour's stall one morning to find his neighbour beating a cow with a spancel. He took the spancel from him and threw it into an old tub which was in the stall. This man's cows gave very little produce for that year and he wondered what happened. One day as he was cleaning out the stall he came to take the old tub and it was full to the top of butter. Then he thought of the spancel that had been thrown into it and knew that was the reason for the butter being in the tub.
