  1. (no title) (continued)

Once upon a time a man named Martin Beggins lived in a poor derelict place.

    (continued from previous page)
one. Martin went to the next fair to buy a pony, and he bought him and rode him home. He came to a lonely place. A very big animal came along by his side and he kept head to head with the little pony. Then poor Martin did not know what to do and he was thinking of everything. At last he said "In the name of God what brought you here?" but it did not go away. After another piece he said to the animal again, "In the name of the devil what brought you here?" Then the animal went like fire through the bushes. Then he got afraid and he thought he would never get home. When he reached his own house he put the little pony into a house. Then he knocked at the door and his wife let him in. He told her all that had happened and he ate his supper and went to bed. He never again got up and the next day the priest and doctor was with him. He died a few days after.
