    Long ago in the bad times there was a lady in Listowel named Mrs Sheaver.

    Long ago in the bad times there was a lady in Listowel named Mrs Sheaver. She had a lap dog and he was so crowded with good things that he got delicate and would eat nothing. She called in a poor man that used be over a kennel and asked him did he know anything about her dog. She said she would give him a pound if he cured him. The man said he did, of course, but he should carry him home to treat him. The lady gave him the dog and a blanket to put around him. She gave him bread and milk and cream and eggs to give him. The poor man carried him home and put him into a room and put an old bag around him. He gave him nothing to eat that day and he gave him a potato in the morning. The poor man
