Long ago the people used to boil nettles with bacon and then they used to drink the water and they never got any disease. There is a root growing in our garden called "comphrie," when it is washed and scraped it is very good for healing cuts. Over in the north there is a yellow weed called the rag-weed and if a horse eats it he would get blind.
The people do not like to see thisles or chicken weed growing among the crops as they do a lot of harm to them. Young nettles and dandelions when chopped up are very good for young ducks and young turkeys.
If you boil nettles and drink the juice three times in the month of March you will never have any coughs or colds.
It is also very good to boil mountain sedge and drink the juice of it. Long ago the people used to sleep in the a bed of nettles for one night and they never got rheumatism.
