  1. "You Sons of the Shamrock, I hope you'll draw near"
Song relating to an incident which occurred at the time of the Fighting Fair of Shercock.
You Sons of the Shamrock, I hope you'll draw near,
This sad lamentation you quickly shall hear,
Concerning the flower of our countrié
Who of late was detected for his loyaltié.
His name I'll not mention for fear of some blame,
In grandeur of state this young hero remained.
His friends and neighbours have cause to bewail,
Since he was convicted to Cavan new jail.
'Twas on Whitsun Monday this youth did repair
To his place of abode, coming for Shercock fair,
He met with the Parkers and Chambers also:
To murder this young man they ranked in a row.
Like Nector, undaunted, it's forward he goes
With a good intention to conquer his foes.
Like great Alexander he conquered the train,
Till fortune has helped him the laurels to gain.
Because he was able the conquest to win (or gain)
To have some revenge they soon formed a "skame"
They went to Allen Adams his aid to implore,
And swore him a captain of the Ribbon Corps.
