- The depth of our churn is about 3 feet 8 inches. It is circular, and it is a foot and a half in width at the top and the same at the bottom.
The man that makes the churn is called a "cooper". There is a bit of the lid and also out of the side of the churn to know how to put on the lid.
Butter is made in it once a week in summer and winter. The people that are in the house do the churning and if anyone happens to come in during it, he will give a hand, because they say "it is lucky to take a brash at the churn"
The "churning" takes an hour and it is done by hand. The churn dash is moved up and down, and when it is near finished it is rolled from side to side to gather the butter on the milk.
