  1. There was one man in the district who could make baskets. His name was Robert Leathem of Drumcalpin, Cloverhill, Co Cavan. The baskets he made were potato baskets. First he got a briar about three feet long. This is called a "hoop". The two ends of the briar are caught together and are nailed in this position. Then he got six slats, these are wattled in together with sally rods. Then he got two rods which were handles and wattled them in.

  2. There lived a man in Drumcalpin who was very good at wood-work, such as a churn barrels, and other things made of wood. He was a very clever man at wood work. He had a shed for the purpose of the wood-work. The name of this man was Bob Leathem. He also made baskets out of scollops. The kind of wood he used to put in the barrels was ashe, he also used three hoops the barrels or churn together. He sold them out as he made them.
