It is said that if people come in while you are churning, no butter will come on the milk. - There are many kinds of churns nowadays but in olden times the best known type was the dash-churn. The kind of churn which is at home is the dash-churn. It is about four feet in height and about two feet wide. It is worked by a dash which is kept moving up and down.
In Summer churning is done twice or three times every week, but in Winter it is done less frequently. It is an old custom that if a person goes into a house where churning is going on he should take part in it.
