- In olden times poets were very numerous in this part of the country. A famous poet named Mr Thomas Kelly lived in Rathdangan. He composed the following song known as "The holy Temple of Killamoate"
I
You head inspectors and great Architectors
Likewise you writers I pray attend
I hope you will excuse me for this intrusion
Of those few verses which I have penned
Grant me a favour as I am here a stranger
Although doomed to labour I am styled a poet
I think it my duty to extoll the beauty
Of that "Holy Temple of Killamoate.
II
A skilful mason laid the great foundation
In eighteen hundred and thirty eight
We trust to heaven again forty-seven
Our holy temple we'll have complete.
On a rock 'tis founded and well surrounded
With pine and cedor and other trees,
By Highparks groves it is well abounded
To shade it from the cold winters' haze.
