  1. In olden times poets were very numerous in this part of the country. A famous poet named Mr Thomas Kelly lived in Rathdangan. He composed the following song known as "The holy Temple of Killamoate"
    I
You head inspectors and great Architectors
Likewise you writers I pray attend
I hope you will excuse me for this intrusion
Of those few verses which I have penned
Grant me a favour as I am here a stranger
Although doomed to labour I am styled a poet
I think it my duty to extoll the beauty
Of that "Holy Temple of Killamoate.
    II
A skilful mason laid the great foundation
In eighteen hundred and thirty eight
We trust to heaven again forty-seven
Our holy temple we'll have complete.
On a rock 'tis founded and well surrounded
With pine and cedor and other trees,
By Highparks groves it is well abounded
To shade it from the cold winters' haze.
    III
Its walls are splendid and its cross extended
