  1. Lord Shannon's people reigned in Castlemartyr for more than seven hundred years. He was a good man as he gave work to a lot of the poor of the parish. He divided the district into farms and sold them at a certain amount per acre. He kept thirty working men between gardeners, cooks, and labourers. He gave fifty pounds a year for the poor of the parish and his workmen got from three to five pounds a week. He was one of the best lords in Country Cork. The last of his people died about thirty years ago.
