- In Killavoy Banteer there was a school in 1820 and the following pupils attended:-
Owen Riordan, Killavoy and his four brothers.

Pat Buckley, Tancora

The Subjects taught were Arithmetic, Reading, Writing, Grammar and Geography. Irish was not taught there. The pupils had to pay a fee of 1/0 per week and support the schoolmasters in turn. He stayed a week in each scholar's house.
Stone seats and deskes were used and there was a large flat stone for a table. This "table stone" is still in Killcuroy in the field where the school was
