    The Monks, who lived in the monastery which is situated beside the "Old Castle", took the bell and threw it into the Shannon so that Cromwell's soldiers would never get it. There were no attempts made to unearth it as it was not known at what part of the Shannon it was thrown in.

    A game-keeper belonging to the Earl of Harewood had a valuable gun which he buried in the 'New Castle' for safety, the time of the Irish war. The castle was burned and the gun remains
