  1. Clanrickarde was the local landlord. He was the only landlord who acted severely with his tenants in the Co. Galway, until an act of parliament was passed which forced him to sell his rights to his tenants.
    It also enabled the land commission to reinstate the evicted tenants back in their own homesteads from which he threw them out on the road sides.
    Some of these poor tenants who were evicted by him were forced to take the ship to foreign lands. Others who had no money were forced to go into the nearest towns to look for employment.
    We learn that even poor tenants who did pay their rents had to suffer severe hardships. If they attempted to plough certain portions
