The scholars were great for making short cuts. Those from Carrintanlass and Rahogarty along with the Chresham's used to cross in opposite Chresham's and some out on the Glann "torlough" near where Mannion's is now. Those from Marley would cross down through Her?? "torlough" down through Hennelly's where Rick Hennelly and Micil Naughton would join them and out on the Glann road.
All that ever went to Connelly's school were good spellers and good writers. Connelly used to make ink out of elder berries and this was the ink that was used at the school. He used to write the sentence or headline on a leaf and past it on the well and the scholars used to copy it while Connelly stood over them with a stick. The same way the making of figures was worked the teacher doing the sum on a leaf and pasting it on the wall. The greatest ornaments to be seen upon the walls of the school were therefore the sentences written in the big round hand-(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
