- Shops were common in the country houses in this district in former times. The people that had no shops near them had to go to the nearest town and get their provisions. I do not know whether buying and selling was carried on after mass, but it is carried on now.
Money was not always given for goods, because the people gave their eggs and butter for them.
The shop people are prohibited to sell after certain hours and they are prohibited to sell on a Sunday.
There are pedlars and dealers going round this district yet.
In olden times the pound note was referred to as a quid, the shilling as a bob, the sixpence as a tanner, the penny as a wing, and the half penny as a maih.
The four penny bit and the five shilling piece are out of use now.
