    Most of the marriages take place before Shrove after Lent. The month of May is thought unlucky for marriages and 7th and 13th and 17th are also throught unlucky for marriage.
    Some people believe in the old rhyme
    Monday for health
    Tuesday for wealth
    Wednesday for riches and all
    Thursday for crosses
    Friday for losses
    And Saturday in no day at all.
    It is not lucky for people to marry during lent. There are a lot of matches made in our district. Money is very oftne given as dowry now, but there is never any stock or goods given now, but in olden time it was quite customary to give these.
    It is not so long ago since marriages took place in the house in district.
    A wedding feast is generally held on the wedding day in the house of the bride or in some hotel. Some people tie old tins and hold horse shoes and old shoes to the car before they go to get married.
