  1. Many strong men lived in these parts long ago, such as great high jumpers, great long jumpers, great mowers, great hurlers, great racers, great fighters and hand ball players. Brian Kearney was a great high jumper. He used to jump about 7 feet high. He challenged many jumpers and he beat them all. These were John Burket, Paddy Higgins, Jim Flahive and John Casey. John Murphy was a great long jumper he used to him 28 feet in the long jump. He often jumped a chasm over 20 feet long. Pat Griffin was a great mower, he used mow 2 acres of hay in one day.; he used to eat a pot of potatoes and meat for his dinner. He was a tall stout man. Owen
