  1. There were many old customs in Ireland long ago, and many of them still remain. November night the people eat apples and nuts and beans. The children have great fun.
    They put a tub of water in the floor, and put an apple into it, and they try to catch the apple with their mouths, with their hands tied behind their back. Then a boy and a girl will put beans into the fire, and if they jump near one another the boy and the girl would marry.
