- There were many poets in this district long ago, but their poetry was never written down into books. Some verses have been preserved locally.
Once Kerry was playing Wexford and a poem was made about the players. It says Lawlor then was on the ball. A man of might and grit, And with the kick he gave it. He drove it through the net. Sullivan and She who leap the sky, and every kick he gave the ball. Up Kerry was the cry.(continues on next page)
