certain family in Tullaghaloyst. He used to go to them and stay with them for about a day and a half and the divil out of hell wouldn't get him out. John used to spend half his time with the fairies. If he (J Cripes) got anything to eat or drink he used to make the sign of the cross on it and go out into the fields and give half of it to the fairies. The people of this house had an awful time with him.

Long ago something used to take the good or the butter off the milk. This happened often to my father. He used to keep four or five cows. Sometimes when he used to be churning the milk would flow over and come out as froth. He had to send for the priest. He had a cow that used to stand roaring to the west and every morning when he would go out he used to see a hare or a rabbit under this special cow taking the milk from her. The priest told him to sell this cow. He sold her but no sooner had he sold her than another of the cows was affected the same way. He had to sell every cow he had about the place and get in new ones. He used to keep the milk in a room but even this room was wrong or haunted, ye know what I mane, as long as he kept the milk in this room there would come no butter on the milk. At last he had to close the room. One night before we did a churn we scrubbed all the
