Br ead was made from wheat grown locally in this district in olden times. The wheat was ground into flour by grinding stones. Some of these grinding stones are still to be seen in farm yards in the district. There is one at Will Brian's house in College. Oaten meal bread was made from oaten meal and flour mixed with milk. Bread was baked every three or four days. A cross was cut on the cake when made to keep the crust from lifting up at the sides. Oven-pots and griddles were the vessels in which bread was baked.
