  1. We grow half an acre of potatoes each year and this amount seldom varies.
    My brother prepares the ground which is not measured in any way before being turned up.
    We grew the potatoes in drills which are made with a spade. Wooden ploughs are not used in this district nor are there any left. When spades are used they have to be bought in the local shops.
    The seed potatoes are cut into pieces which we call sciollains and an eye is left on each piece.
