Ar an leathanach seo

  1. The oldest house in this district belongs to Brian Cahill. It is a one-storey house, containing three apartments, with the kitchen in the centre. The kitchen is large enough to make three of the modern kitchens.
    The house is about two hundred years old. The floor is made of yellow clay called "leaclath".
    The chimney is wide and open. If a person stood at the fireplace and looked up through the chimney he could see the sky away above. The outside of the chimney is made of stone and clay.
    The fire is on the floor at the left hand side of the kitchen, and the door and half door are on the right hand side. Coal and sticks are burnt on the hearth now, but formerly turf and sticks were burnt on it. There is a fan bellows at the side of the fire, and when it is twisted the fire blazes up.
    The house is thatched with straw. Before lamps were invented the people of the house
