The night of the big wind was on the sixth of January in the year 1839. On this night the wind was so rough that it drove the salt water from Lahinch to Kilfenora and the houses in Kilfenora were in danger of being knocked and the way they saved them was to put ropes across the houses and tie the weights they had in the shops to the end of the ropes.
