  1. Old Schools.
    There were few hedge schools in the district of Adare. There was one hedge school which I was told was situated in the old road between Castleroberts cross which was formerly called Clancy's Cross and Reilly's Cross.
    There is a man living in Croom by the name of Tierney, his father was a former hedge school master who used to teach in the hedge school in the old road. In the winter time this school master used also go to the farmers in the neighbourhood
