  1. An incident connected with the Franciscan abbey.
    About forty years ago there was a Scotch maid at Adare manor. She had been very interested in the ruins and had a little book about them. One evening as she was coming round she went into the abbey and she had her head down reading the book. She suddenly raised her head and saw a Franciscan reading his office going round the cloisters. She thought it was a ghost and she screamed and ran for the doorway. The priest called her but she would not come back and
