  1. In the townland of Clonmult about a mile and a half from Dungourney on the twentieth of February, nineteen twenty one a great battle was fought. A number of Republicans were staying in a house in Clonmult. The Black and Tans surrounded them, while their leader Diarmuid O Hurley was away. In the battle there were twelve killed and three wounded. When Diarmuid O Hurley came home that night he was very upset. Those that were killed are buried in the Republican Plot in Midleton
