  1. In this parish (Kilshannig) there was a professional "match maker" who was known by no other name but Seainin briste leatair. He was a remarkably small man and yet his trousers was always too short for him, never reaching to the mouths of his boots, but very wide. It was said that he used to make his own clothes and that when he was young his father made him wear a leather trousers as he used to tear the cloth ones so quickly.
    Seainin used to travel from house to house and was occasionally employed to "take an account of a match" from one house to another, but more frequently he used his own judgement and introduced a match without being asked by either party.
    If a marriage followed owing to Seainin's exertions he considered he had a claim on the parties married and was a frequent visitor there.
    He died about thirty years ago. Up to that time nearly every parish
