- No boy or girl comes to Glantane school barefoot now, but when our fathers and grand-fathers were going to school nearly every boy and girl in the school would be bare-foot in the summer and some of them would be bare-foot until the very cold weather would come.
In the remote parishes in our grandfathers' time many men and women would wear boots only when going to town or to Mass and when they came home they took off the boots again to spare them, and also because they were more comfortable without them.
Some old people who lived a long distance from the town used to take their boots and stockings in a parcel and walk barefoot until they came near the town when they would put them on.
An old woman who was hurrying to town one day with her boots under her arm struck her toe against a stone on the road and when she(continues on next page)
