  1. Another punishment inflicted on those who did not get married was to have their names included in the "Skellig List".
    This was composed by some of the wittiest of the boys and girls of the district and held up the parties to ridicule. Though there was hardly ever anything hard or insulting in it those mentioned in it often resented it very much because the boys and girls in the locality made a point of getting it by rote and repeating it on every possible occasion.
    The practice is so long discontinued in this parish that very few remember it.
