   Long ago my mother's grandmother used to carry butter to town and Ballybay. The old women used to go barefoot and carry their boots with them. When they would go to the end of the town they would put them on them. When they would come out of the town they would take the boots off again. There was no such eating-houses in those days. The old women used to bring their tea and sugar with them and get it wet - and they also used their own bread, that they had brought for use from home. An ounce of tea was all ever was bought that time, unless for such houses that there was a dance. The men used to go barefoot in that time too along with the old women.
