    we will have snow. If the wind is from the South we will have rain and if it is from the West we will have rain too. The South West wind brings the most rain to our district.
    If the curlews fly high it is the sign of rain. When the cat turns his back to the fire it is an omen of rain, and if the dog is sleepy and if he eats grass, it is the sign of rain too.
    A lot of flies in a house are a sign of fine weather. Soot falling is an indication of rain. A blue light in the fire is an omen of rain.

  2. The schools we had long ago were not like the schools we have now.
    In the Summer time they were held in the open air, and in the winter they were held in the cowhouses, and they were hedge-schools, and every child had to bring a sod of turf to use as a bench or a seat.
    The school-masters got very small pay, but they got free lodgings form the neighbours.
