    the cows one by one with it. On St Martin's night the people kill a pig, or a goose, or a duck, or a hen in every house in Kerry in memory of St. Martin whose head was crushed in a mill. About forty years ago a horse would not be harnessed on St. Martin's day. The farmers threshed no corn or turned no wheel on that day.
    On St. Brigid's day a cross was made of rushes and put up on the rafters of the house and left there until the following St. Brigid's day it was called St. Brigid's Cross.
