  1. About a 100 years ago a ship was driven ashore into Ballyheigue strand. At that time the people of this locality five miles away were very much given to capturing wreck thrown ashore by the waves. One man in particular walked five miles that night, he entered the ship and was using a hatchet to displace some articles which he thought would be of great value to him. He was captured and was taken to a disused house and was laid in his back on the floor tied
