  1. There were many bad storms in Ireland but there was an awful storm in the year 1839.
    It did a lot of damage. Boats were lost, houses knocked and damage done to crops. There was a boat going from Galway to Sligo with poteen when the storm arose. The boat was dashed to pieces on a rock out in the sea. The men were drowned and their bodies were found of the sand in Salthill when the storm over.
    Each man had a bottle of poteen in his pocket and one had a cag of poteen in his hands.
