- A great many herbs grow on the land such as nettles, docken leaves, chicken weed, skutch grass, wild fire, cuckoo saddle and briars. Nettles grow on bad land and around old houses, Docken leaves grow on all sorts of land. Chicken weed grows on tillage land. Skutch grass grows grows where ever potatoes are sowed. Cuckoo saddle grows everyplace. Briars grow on bad land. Skutch grass and Docken leaves make the land poor. The others smother the crops.
The people boil Chicken weed and they give it to a sick cow. Docken leaves are good for nettle burns. The people eat cuckoo saddle and water cress. They give nettles to young ducks and turkeys.- Collector
