Long ago when there were no roads it happened that a man named James Moran from this district went to Sligo. He went across the river Bonet at the steps in Sox. When he was returning it was night and he lost his way and he walked into a deep hole in the river and was drowned. When he did not return that night the neighbours went out in search of him. When they came to the river Bonet they saw his body in the water and a mermaid having him in her arms at a white-thorn bush. That bush never grew since and the place where he was drowned is called "Moran's hole."
