- Oaten-meal bread
About a hundred years ago the people of this district ate oaten-meal bread. This bread was made with hot water, salt, and oaten-meal which was ground locally. When the ingredients were mixed the cake was left in front of the fire on a gridiron for about a half an hour. Some farmers had querns of their own to grind the oats and other got it ground in the mill at Gortgarrigan on the banks of the Bonet. The boxty and potato bread was also made for set nights.- Collector
