    The goods were packed into a cart that waited at the door

    the weather was severe
    And some good boys made up the plan
    these goods to commandeer
    They lay an ambush at the bridge where the torrents loud did roar
    And out the popped and the driver stopped on his way to Ballinamore

    They told the driver then to stop
    & bade to him subdue
    The good were packed into a craft
    that sailed for Killaloe
    They told him then to go his way
    his loss he did deplore
    With a broken heart and an empty cart
    he sailed for Ballinamore

    No wonder the Athlone police did shudder at the scene
