- In Howth there was a castle. There lived in it a landlord and some others. It was near the sea and they used to go out to see if there were any ships. One night there was a storm and the next morning they discovered an old woman in a raft.They brought her and her luggage into the castle and made her comfortable. Now this landlord had a servant man who was haunted by a rat. Everywhere he went the rat was sure to go.He told the old woman whom he sheltered and she gave him a strap to tie around his wrist.She told him never to take it off and as long as he wore it, it kept the rat(continues on next page)
