    a noise in the chapel and they were shaking with fear. Neither of them slept that night.
    In the morning Billy went out to investigate and he soon found the cause of his anxiety; it was his own goat that got in during the night and she was dying and while she was dying she was bobbing her head against the altar steps.
    He afterwards said that he was glad that she made her peace with God but she made it in a very queer fashion which caused him much discomfort.

  2. In Howth there was a castle. There lived in it a landlord and some others. It was near the sea and they used to go out to see if there were any ships. One night there was a storm and the next morning they discovered an old woman in a raft.
    They brought her and her luggage into the castle and made her comfortable. Now this landlord had a servant man who was haunted by a rat. Everywhere he went the rat was sure to go.
    He told the old woman whom he sheltered and she gave him a strap to tie around his wrist.
    She told him never to take it off and as long as he wore it, it kept the rat
