- (continued from previous page)The slits are left nine inches apart. Some person comes with a spade and covers the slits with clay. Then two men come with four pronged forks and spread the sea-weed down in the drill. Another person comes with a bucket and shakes the bag manure in the drill. Then the drill is closed in with a plough. That is one drill sown. Two more drills must be made before the drill is sown. Out of every three drills after that one is sown. About two weeks before the stalks come above the ground they are harrowed with a common harrow. After that a crusher is drawn over them to break the big lumps of clay that are on top.
