  1. As a result of the famine, fever set in and many people died of fever. The fever spread rapidly and the dead were often left days without burying. Everybody dreaded the fever so that a person would never go to a neighbour's house.
    A poor woman named Mary Walsh, her husband and three children were smitten down. In answer to the children's cries for water, the father struggled out of bed and got a drink. When returning to bed he colapsed [sic] on the floor and died. His poor wife, hearing his pitiful moans, was unable to assist him.
