    The old people say that long ago there was a line of houses on each side of the road from Straid monastary to Ballylahan. That is why it was called Straid or a street.
    Long ago there was a lot of land covered with Raitheach. The people that were living in the place set fire to the Raitheach and tilled the land. Then they called the place Capparaney.
    Ceathramhadcaoil got its name from the thin
