  1. May Day.
    This day is considered most unlucky. Nobody gives away milk or butter or sells it. It is said that if milk or butter is given away the luck of the byre is gone for the year.
    No important business is done on May Day in the country. If a marriage was to take place it would be postponed.
    New Year's Day
    Nobody enters a neighbour's house on New Year's Day. The first who enters is supposed to bring good or bad luck. Usually farmers take out the team of horses and plough the first sod.
