  1. About three miles from Kilnadur School there are the remains of a very remarkable yew tree. Less than a century ago this tree sent out branches that extended over a radius of a hundred yards.
    The landlord of this district, where this tree grew was Col. Cox. He was jealous of the beauty of the yew tree and had tradesmen brought over from England to cut down its wonderful branches and finally to cut down itself.
    Col. Cox had a boat made out of some of the timber of this tree and in this boat one of the Cox family got drowned in Dunmanway lake.
    A brother of this same Col. Cox hated the catholic clergy. He was always making game of the Catholic curate who was then at Dunmanway. One day this curate pass him by and Cox shouted : "there goes the dancing master". This was
