    There was always a bed in every kitchen and it was called a "settle-bed". The chimneys were usually made of mortar and stones. The old floors were made with yellow clay and stones. Half doors were very colmon in olden days and they are to be seen in some houses to the present day. Rush lights were very common and they are very common in this district on 12th Night or the 6th of January even to the present day.
