- Long ago the O'Loughlins were chiefs of this parish. The O'Briens and Mac Nameras were great people. Máire Ruad was a witch that lived in Lemenagh castle and was the wife of Conor O' Brien. Her castle is still to be seen in Lemenagh but it is roofless. She killed many people by her wicked spells. She was red haired.
