- (continued from previous page)called the Penal Laws, and there was a law that any priest that would be caught saying mass in a chapel would be put to death and they had to say mass in the mountains and hillsides. There is a stone altar at Ballyalaban where mass used to be celebrated during the Penal Days. This altar is marked with a small stone cross.
- There was an old man long ago who was very fond of eating nuts, and he used to preserver as much in Summer as would do him until the nuts would be ripe again, and when he was dying he ordered a bag of nuts to be put into the cofin(continues on next page)
