Holy Thursday is a really devotional day. It is kept according to the laws of the Church.
Good Friday is another very devotional day. Some people have a custom of keeping three hours' silence between 12 noon and 3 p.m. in honour of the three hours Our Lord was hanging on the Cross.
Easter Sunday is the Sunday after Good Friday. On that day people have a custom of eating as many eggs as they like.
There is a custom of making a May Bush on May Day. A white-thorn bush is got and decorated with flowers. Then it is put in the eave of the house over the door. It is left there until the end of May.
Saint Kieran's Day 9th September is always kept a holiday in this part of the country. It is the chief "Pattern" day here. All the people go to the "Pattern" in Clonmacnoise and do "Stations" round the Holy Well. Mass is celebrated in the graveyard.
Michaelmas Day reminds us of the Michaelmas goose. The old people always killed the first goose of the flock for Michaelmas Day.
