  1. The people long ago ate three meals. Milk and porridge for their breakfast. Potatoes and cabbage for their dinner, and for their supper that ate the same as they ate for their breakfast.
    The people worked without food until nine o clock, that was the time they ate their breakfast.
    Buttermilk was drank at every meal. When the family was large they sat round a table on the middle of the floor. In some houses the table was hung on the wall when not in use. Salt meat was eaten once a day.
    Fish and vegetables were eaten on Fridays and fast days.
    Potatoes were used often in the mornings for breakfast; but the potatoes were grated in boxty
